cozy bone broth cacao

As we are gearing up for winter here on the West Coast, it’s time to bring in the rotating bone broths - chicken, buffalo, shiitake, and beef. Lacing it with raw cacao adds a sense of warmth and coziness the holidays bring. Bone broth offers essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. These are important for hormonal health, especially surrounding fertility and inflammatory healing. It’s rich in compounds that support gut healing like glutamine, glycine, collagen and proline, all of which have been shown to reduce intestinal inflammation. Although it may sound weird, it’s a heavenly delight on a cold day.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup bone broth, homemade

  • 1/4 cup coconut milk

  • 1 oz raw cacao or dark chocolate (70% or higher)

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup, honey or one medjool date (optional)

  • 1 scoop collagen (optional)

  • 1 pinch sea salt

METHODS

  1. Warm the bone broth and coconut milk together.

  2. Add all ingredients to blender and blitz until creamy.

  3. Pour into a mug and sip slowly.

TIPS + TRICKS

  • Keep the bone broth or infused with complimentary flavours such as ginger, chilli, turmeric, or plain.

  • No coconut milk? Use another milk of choice such as almond, hemp, cashew, or grass-fed organic full fat.

  • No raw cacao? Use 1 tbsp cocoa powder instead. Quality matters here so do your best to find a high grade cocoa.

  • Jazz it up with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom, or maca root and ashwagandha for adaptogenic benefits.
